I went hunting through my needles to find some I could give to her, I have a rather alarming number of knitting needles…not so many as were posted about on the Yarn Harlot blog yesterday but considering I've only been knitting for 2.5 years I may be well on my way to a collection like that if I don't stop buying them! I grabbed 2 sets of bamboo needles, a set of 4mm and a set of 4.5mm and I put them in my work bag. This may just be an excuse for me to show off my work bag but I do love it so...
Oh how I hope my friend enjoys knitting and gets into it. I'm not sure whether she will but I do hope so. Right now she's excited so I'm excited and I have high hopes that the knitting bug will spread across the office so people are genuinely interested when I show them my knitting instead of just being polite.
I also got rather over excited when walking for the bus after work yesterday. My LYS sells cotton bags with the shop name on them (also free if you spend over a certain amount) and I saw a girl carrying one. A knitter in the wild! Well possbily anyway…I gave her a big "hello knitting friend!" grin, she gave me a "you are clearly a crazy person" look. I really need to learn to contain myself when there are knitter sightings but I don't see many out and about so I just can't help myself.
Yummy bag. I have only ever taught one person to knit, a five year old. I was so proud that she wanted to knit like her Auntie. Two visits in a row she wanted to try it. I haven't seen her since, so I don't know if she has forgotten. It will be interesting to see.
ReplyDelete"A knitter in the wild" - Haha, that made me chuckle! Good luck with the teaching!
ReplyDeleteYey!! Good luck with the teaching, I wonder will she become as obsessed as us! ;) And I do like the idea of "a knitter in the wild".
ReplyDeleteI laughed when I read about you grinning at a fellow knitter! I do hope that your friend enjoys learning how to knit. Since I started knitting at school, a couple of other members of staff have started to knit.
ReplyDeleteI had a chance encounter at work with a woman who raises alpacas, spins and knits ... we chatted (in a packed elevator) about spindles and sheep fairs and such, and ... well, we didn't win anyone over. In fact, I recall some odd looks cast our way.
ReplyDeleteThey just DON'T understand us!
"A knitter in the wild!" That really made me giggle. I once saw a girl knitting a blanket on a train. I couldn't help but oggle because it seemed like such a cumbersome project to knit on the go (and it was a really lovely project too!), but I think I must just have looked rude because she looked slightly alarmed to find me staring...
ReplyDeleteLOL!! A knitter in the wild ... you know what though, I would've been overly friendly to that stranger too!! I couldn't believe how many needles the Yarn Harlot had ... whoa!
